Kanye Says He Is A Soldier Of Culture+T.I. AXEd From Endorsement Deal

Kanye West dropped by "The Ellen DeGeneres Show" yesterday to show a sneak peek of his new movie "Runaway."  See what else he had to say inside plus get the deets of T.I. former deal with AXE...
Kanye West sat down with Ellen earlier today for his first sit-down chat since he was publicly banished after the Taylor Swift incident in 2009.  Kanye told Ellen what he's been up to and previewed a clip from the 35-minute experimental movie for "Runaway," which MTV and BET will premiere in full on Saturday at 8 p.m. ET.
After the Swift incident he took the advice of friend rapper Mos Def, who advised 'Ye to get out of the country for a while until things cooled down."  He said,
"I left America. I stopped doing music altogether. I just took some time I went to Japan just so I could get away from paparazzi altogether. Then in November I moved to Rome and just lived there, and when I came back to the States I moved to Hawaii. I lived there for about six months and just worked on music."
When Ellen asked if he paid attention to the MTV VMAs media storm, it got a little emotional as he said, "What was good about going away it was the first time that I got to stop since my mom had passed," referring to his mother, Donda West's 2007 death due to post-operative complications.
"I had never stopped and never tried to even soak in what all had happened.  It was the first time I had stopped since I had made it. Since I had started. It was time to take a break and develop more as a person, as a creator and focus more on my thoughts and my ideas and what I wanted to bring to the world."
Ellen then got deep and asked if the Henny he was sippin made him run on stage.  And Kanye said in the moment, he just felt like he had something to get off his chest.  He described feeling like an unwanted pop culture canary in a coal mine and swore to never again attend an awards show.
"I feel like in some ways I'm a soldier of culture.  I realize that no one wants that to be my job and I'll never go on stage again. I'll never sit in an award show again. Will I feel convicted about things that really meant stuff to culture that constantly get denied for years and years? I'm sorry, I will. I cannot lie about it to sell records."
Now...that's a deep statement coming from a music artist as record companies, like other businesses, are mainly concerned about the bottom line.  But I'd rather a soldier of culture than a puppet of the industry or a stereotypical plaything.  This kinda make me love Kanye a little more.  The whole rebellious guy thing.

Watch a clip of the interview below:

T.I. signed with AXE earlier this year and now he's already been removed from their website. A while back we reported that T.I.'s legal troubles put him in danger of losing his deal with deodorant maker AXE...and it did.  A rep for the company says "We will no longer feature T.I. in our promotional campaign."
The decision comes one month after the company publicly stated it was "troubled" by T.I.'s recent arrest for drug possession.  So that's one less check coming into the T.I./Tiny's household with all those mouths to feed. SMH.

Kanye Premieres "Runaway" In L.A., Reveals Past Suicidal Thoughts

Kanye West premiered his new "Runaway" movie short yesterday in L.A.  And he surprised his fans with an interesting reveal about wanting to end his life at one point.

Premiere pics and Kanye's suicidal revelation when you read on...

While at L.A.'s Harmony Gold Theater, 'Ye revealed to press and fans that he has come through some very dark times.  In an interview, he revealed that he contemplated suicide during the past few years after the deaths of his mother and a close friend, and a life that the public could see was spiraling out of control.  He said:
“There were times that I contemplated suicide. I will not give up on life again. There’s so many people that will never get the chance to have their voice heard. I do it for them.”
Wow.  Glad he found a way through the heartaches and hardships and can hopefully be a model to other people contemplating suicide.  Walking away from an urge that will benefit no one is always the right choice.

Lookin' good 'Ye.  By the way, his next single likely releasing this Friday will feature 11...yes, 11...artists.  And all of diff persuasions:
Rihanna, Alicia Keys, John Legend, The-Dream, Tony Williams, Charlie Wilson, Ryan Leslie, Fergie, La Roux’s Elly Jackson, Kid Cudi and Rock legend Elton John are all set to apppear in some way.  And the track apears in his new "Runaway" film.  Get ready....

T.I. Says Prison Will Make Him Better, Reunites With Suicide Jumper He Saved

In a very honest radio interview yesterday, rapper T.I. talks about his upcoming jail bid, lessons learned, and reunites with the man whose life he helped save last week.

In an interview on V-103 Monday, T.I. spoke about his approaching 11-month jail bid saying, "After this, I will become a better person. I am not without flaw. One thing from my flaws that I have always done, I have accepted responsibility."
Back in 2008, Clifford Harris aka T.I. plead guilty to a weapons charge in exchange for a light prison sentence and probation. But during his probation, police in California arrested him on a drug charge several weeks ago. Now he's been ordered back to prison for violating his probation.
One of the issues he opened up about was the betrayals he has seen in his life.  He says the same people who laugh and cheer for you on your way to the top, are the same ones who laugh and cheer on your way down.  It's a wound that seems very fresh in response to how he feels he's been treated by the public.
TIP says his very public mistakes may be unacceptable and inexcuseable, but that does not make them unforgivable.  He expressed that the people who point fingers and judge his actions are no better than him. And most of those people don't contribute to the community like he does.
During the interview, TIP was reunited with Joshua Starks, a man he helped talk out of suicide in Atlanta, last Wednesday.  Joshua said that TIP's appearance was unexpected and not staged.  He thanked him for showing him that "things will get better."
As for his own legal problems, Mr. Harris says "I'm truly sorry and apologetic for having to put people who have supported me in this position. I won't say I'm sorry. I'll show I'm sorry. I'll speak with my actions."
He reminded the audience that he was not prepared for manhood growing up, saying he learned everything by trial and error and that's been his biggest issue.  He ended by saying this latest arrest was his final lesson.
So what changes will T.I. be making?  While he didn't get into specifics, he says, "I'm going to take it a day at a time," but the public will see that change in the music.

BURIED BEEF: Ciara & Keri Hilson Kiss & Make-Up

If you were hoping for a claws-out-yaki-pulling-good-ol-Georgia-beat-down fight from R&B chicks Keri Hilson and Ciara, you can keep twiddling your thumbs and waiting. So Cici and Ms. Keri took to Keri's Ustream last night after Ciara made an appearance on "106 & Park".  And told their fans that there is no beef...and their boxing gloves are over there in the corner. The two have been pitted against each other over the past year or so, with alleged backstage fights at Summer Jam and even supposedly having to be kept away from each other at award shows. I'm not too convinced that there never was any beef, esp. after both ladies dropped diss tracks that seemed clearly meant for each other.  But all that matters now is that they have "put it behind them", and all is well in the R&B world again.  I hope you kids can now sleep at night knowing everything is all gravy.
