Air Jordan V Bin 23 – A Closer Look

It’s not often that the consumer directly impacts the key design choices for Jordan releases, but that was the case with the upcoming release of the Bin 23 Air Jordan V Retro. In a discussion with members of the footwear team, friend of the brand and longtime Jordan-head Alex Meacham talked about a memory that influenced how he rocked his favorite pair of Js. The Air Jordan V has always had a special place in Jordan fans’ hearts with its fighter plane-inspired design, and Meacham was no different. Meacham recalls a 1990 playoff game between Chicago and Milwaukee where Michael Jordan caught his eye by rocking his black AJ Vs with white laces. This was back when the players would wear tights that would go lower than their shorts. To add to the legend of the white laces, MJ ended up dropping 48 points in a hard-fought game.

That summer, Meacham attended a basketball camp held for some of the top prep players in the country. Once he arrived, he realized that all of the best players were wearing black shoes with white laces. To Meacham and the players there, the white laces became a statement. So with the Bin 23 Air Jordan V Retro drop, JB had to bring it back with the white laces – a first for the 5s. The Bin 23 Vs feature the classic black/black metallic silver colorway crafted with premium leathers, and a no-sew technique on the updated black window on the upper. A release is set for Feb. 18 at limited Jordan Brand retail locations across the country.

The Supra 413 Edition series welcomes a new model for release this Saturday with the FACTORY413 exclusive “Black Widow”. Limited to 413 pairs, the upper features a black TUF upper, a robust and hardwearing material which will undoubtedly extend the life of your skate shoes. Ice Cream “Drippy” Sneakers

Released just in time for the weekend, these new “Drippy” sneakers by Ice Cream are definitely one of the coolest kicks we’ve seen so far this Spring. With a canvas upper, tonal laces and a rubber sole, the all-white shoe prominently features a trompe l’oiel print around the base to mimic dripping. With your choice of either navy or pink, the Drippy is available at select BBC/Ice Cream retailers come this weekend.

Levi’s Lefty Jean Textile Vest

The co-designed Levi’s Lefty Jean collection as headed by Takahiro Miyashita and Kazuki Kuraishi work together to produce something a little different. The Textile Vest is unlike most of their previous releases which focused mostly on shirts, jackets and bottoms. With a Mexican blanket style flannel, the vest can be worn alone or buttoned inside a Levi’s Trucker jacket as a liner. Available now at Levi’s E-SHOP.

Casio G-Shock GD-200

Casio G-Shock continues on with its fast and furious watch releases as the GD-200 is presented here with some brand new technology. A resin wristband with fiberglass inserts ensure even greater durability. This comes courtesy of a woven sheet of fiberglass which has been a mainstay in various action sport domains. A high intensity LED light has been commissioned for the backlight. Black, blue, and red colorways will be available upon release.

Undefeated x Converse Poorman Weapon “Burgundy”

No other release from Undefeated has seemed to garner the same support and following as its Converse Poorman Weapon. Originally beginning with an olive green version, we’ve now seen it enter its fifth iteration with an exclusive look at this burgundy joint. The colorway joins other models including the aforementioned olive, gunmetal gray and black. The release of this model coincides with next week’s tradeshow stop in Las Vegas as it features a similar approach to design. A release is set for Tuesday, February 15 for Las Vegas with a Los Angeles drop slated for Friday, February 18.

Supra gives us a look into the brand’s Tribute Pack, a Spring 2011 release that highlights three of Supra’s most popular models, including the Skytop, Thunder and Thunder Low. Rihanna has a lot going on these days, being one of the biggest pop stars in the world. Today she dropped the online commercial for her fragrance Reb'l Fleur and we have it for you inside.
Also, she will perform on the Grammys on Sunday, has released her North American tour dates for the LOUD tour and she softened her restraining order against Chris Brown. Get all your Rihanna news here...

Rihanna's new promo for Reb'l Fleur is meant to be watched twice. The New York Times reports:

For half of the one-minute video, by Droga5, a Manhattan agency, Rihanna lounges in an oversize flower and glides around a lush topiary garden wearing a peach dress and smiling. Then, Alice-like, she steps through a mirror and is suddenly wearing a black dress and a come-hither expression, and is embraced by a dark stranger wearing a tuxedo.
A specially designed video player enables users to choose to run the video in either direction, which of course conveys different situations, such as the singer stepping toward the man in one mode and backing away from him in another. When the page is uploaded, the frame frozen on the video is at the 30-second point, as Rihanna’s nice and naughty personae gaze toward one another from either side of the mirror, and viewers may proceed in either direction.
The video is expected to be uploaded to rihannareblfleur.com, and a simplified version will appear on video-sharing Web sites like YouTube.

And about that Chris Brown situation...
No Chris won't be at the Grammys, but RiRi and her team have decided to soften the restraining order against Chris to a "do not annoy" level. This means that the two are allowed to contact each other.  But before this takes place, a judge must approve.
The original order by Judge Patricia Schnegg, put into effect in August 2009, mandated that the former couple were barred from communicating with each and maintain their distance if ever in the same room.
For Chris Brown's part in this, the judge said,

"Of all probationers I've ever had, and I've had thousands of probationers, no one has ever done a better or more consistent job than you have," Schnegg said during a November hearing. "And I really want to commend you for taking responsibility, and for actually working diligently to complete all of the things the court has required of you."

RiRi is just about ready to bring the LOUD tour home for a few American dates.  As the cd, LOUD, is one of the best selling discs around the world, I'm sure her fans her in the States can't wait so see her.  Tickets go on sale Valentine's Day and so far she has announced:

Nicki Minaj has finally grabbed the #1 spot on the Billboard 200 albums chart.  Her Pink Friday album just moved past the 1 million SOLD mark since its late November release and it debuted at #2.
Billboard reports:
Minaj’s patient wait for her turn at No. 1 is a rare sight. For the most part, an album is only No. 1 because it debuted there. It’s unusual for a set to climb to the top. Case in point: in 2010, there were 30 albums that hit No. 1, but just one — Lil Wayne’s “I Am Not A Human Being” — actually rose to the top. Wayne debuted at No. 2 off of just downloads, then fell to No. 16 the next week, only to reach No. 1 the next once the CD version of the album dropped.

Minaj’s 18% sales gain could be attributed to sustained impact from her “Saturday Night Live” guest turn on Jan. 30, in addition to some surprising viral love from confessed fans Taylor Swift and Selena Gomez. The latter ladies can be found — separately — on YouTube rapping to the “Pink Friday” cut “Super Bass.” The two most popular clips have racked up more than 2 million views in the five days they’ve been online.

Rapper Wiz Khalifa is shooting a video for his latest single "Roll Up" (sigh...Khalifa with the subliminal messages) and it stars Bad Boy chick Cassie.  And I have to saw she looks great in the photos.

Asked about Cassie, Wiz said “She’s really, really dope in the video.  Just her movement and her following, I felt like it’s just real positive and it matches what we represent. For the type of chick that we were representing, like a really bossy chick, a chick who has some stuff going, it felt like Cassie was perfect for it.”

And Wiz looks smitten.

The Kings of Hip-Hop, Jay-Z and Kanye West, take the title of their new new album Watch The Throne very seriously.  Sources say the duo are recording together in high style having rented out any entire floor of the posh NYC Mercer Hotel.  How's the for fab living?
When talking about the album, which comes out this summer, Jay-Z said,

"This is another level of recording . . . really, he's like a brother to me -- I've seen him from the beginning to where he is now . . . how he's growing as a producer and as an artist, for me, on another level, it's enjoyable."

In other music news...

Rihanna has released a new promo pic for her fragrance Reb'l Fleur.  The pic will soon be followed by an online video rumored to debut on Friday to promote the fragrance.  The company, Parluz Fragrances, says Rihanna's launch will be one of their largest ever.
Also, Rihanna is set to hit the stage at the Grammys, where at least two of her former flames will be in attendance.  Rumor has it that both Matt Kemp and Drake will also attend the Grammys on Sunday. And there is a strong possibility that Drake may appear on stage with Rihanna.  If that happens, expect the cameraperson to cut to reaction shots of Matt Kemp.
