Stussy “Red Line” Denim Collection

While we’ve seen Stussy collaborate with denim brands in the past, the brand goes the singular route in creating their Red Line collection. Featuring heavy washing, the distressing and wear probably won’t pass for something worn on your own from a raw state but still looks the part through some natural finishes. Vintage details are maintained such as chain stitching via Union Specials and red selvedge lines. The collection is available on Saturday, January 8th at Japanese Stussy Chapters.

CLOT x CASIO G-SHOCK Jason Watch

With a wealth of collaborations under their belt, it’s surprising that this marks CLOT’s first project with CASIO G-SHOCK. Utilizing one of the newer re-introduced models the Jason (originally unveiled in 1994 as the G-001), the watch features many of the same properties as the inline version. A CLOT logo is seen on the band in signature red. While the watch includes only minor changes, this is undoubtedly the precursor to a larger project on the horizon for the two partners. Aside from a 25 watch allotment for friends and family, a small 25 watch release is slated for Friday, January 4. All the watches will be limited to JUICE stores across Asia.

Samsung SH100 Camera

Prior to the release of the the SH100 digital camera from Samsung, the Korean electronics brand managed to exceed expectations by moving over 10 million units of its flagship Android phone the Galaxy S. The phone which was the testing grounds for the Nexus S phone now enjoys some interesting integration with the SH100 which allows users to photograph and control their camera with their Galaxy S phone. Together the two can work in unison to have photos sent wirelessly to the phone for uploading to social networks, geotagging and wireless command. On the performance side, the camera lacks some of the sensibilities of class leaders with a 14.2MP sensor and slow f/4.7 lens albeit the price is reasonable at $200 USD. A release will take place in March.

Crooked Tongues: Nike SB Zoom FP Shawn Carboy Q&A

Deemed one of the best releases of 2010 by the people at Crooked Tongues, the Nike SB Zoom FP undergoes a more comprehensive background analysis with Nike SB’s Shawn Carboy. The sneaker’s various new implementations and references to shoes such as the Presto and the Free are all discussed, as well as the anatomical differences of the FP versus the incoming Nike SB Dunk Pro. A selection of answers can be seen below, with the rest of the interview seen here.
What was the Zoom FP’s intended position in the SB line?
We wanted the Zoom FP to be a technical shoe, but at the same time be clean and wearable. Allowing the form to be functional, but keeping the shoe simple and to the point. The process starts and ends with a few basic principles: designing a shoe that you barely notice wearing, while still solving the problems of what makes a shoe skate better.
How long does a project like the FP take to develop? Did the original sketches look like the final article?
We knew there were going to be challenges, so we started a season early—about a year and a half out. The design stayed pretty true to the original design intentions. Since the tooling is an evolution of the Zoom TRE AD tooling, our effort was focused on the construction of the upper, which turned out to be challenging.
The shoe is split into two main parts, the endoskeleton and the exoskeleton. The endoskeleton (the booty) is the internal support structure, which creates the sock-like fit. The exoskeleton (the external shell) supports and protects the booty. The exoskeleton gives you the needed durability without losing board feel or flexibility. Making the shell takes different machines than normal footwear construction. Luckily for us, the Running group have been using this process of flat press (no sew) construction. So once we figured out how to make the shell, then we needed to work out how it would be stitched to the booty with the least amount of hot spots. We went through every stitching path to make sure paths began and ended with no irritation to a person’s foot.
I’m pretty psyched on how it turned out, especially when guys like Eric Koston, Ishod Wair, and Daryl Angel can give us the thumbs up after skating in it and shooting ads in the Zoom FP.
Is there a substantial challenge in making that upper as clean, panel and bulk-free as possible but still making it capable of taking the blows of regular skating?
It’s in the simplicity in the design that makes the FP what it is. We started by asking ourselves, “Does a shoe need to be bulky in order to be durable?”
Usually technical skate shoes are overbuilt and heavy. The thought behind technical skate shoes is to make them indestructible. The shoe then becomes a protection story: protection from the board, protection from impact, protection from the environment, and so on. And with building a shoe in this manor, you increase the amount of parts that could fail. You also take away the actual experience of skating. It’s hard to skate with bricks on your feet. Anyone who skated in the late 90′s can attest to that. It seemed like a good idea at the time!
The ultimate goal is to make the protective qualities work for you. By using the no sew/flat pressing process, we can do this. We can retain the protective qualities of a technical skate shoe, but still have board feel, cushioning, fit, durability, et cetera. For example, the FP doesn’t look durable, but if you dissected the forefoot, you would see that there’s three layers of protection. The top layer is a TPU film, the center is synthetic leather that’s the structure of the shoe, and TPU film underlay for that last layer of protection
How useful has Free technology been to the line? Even the Dunk seems to be getting a spot of Free early next year too.
The way I approached the Dunk Pro SB is different than the FP. With the FP, it makes sense to build in a Nike Free flex groove since there is phylon in the forefoot. This allows us to have a vulc-like board feel while retaining the cushioning properties.
In the case of the Dunk Pro SB, we didn’t need to incorporate a Free flex groove because you’re forefoot is sitting on rubber. We redesigned the tread so that it was specific for skateboarding. The original tread was built for a basketball court. When the shoe got dusty, it didn’t work so well on griptape. So by removing some of the rubber, we increased the overall traction while retaining the Dunk’s iconic look.
It’s a very 21st century thing that our first introduction to a shoe tends to be a camera shot or scan of a lookbook sideview. That’s how we first saw the FP and it didn’t do it justice at all. Is that a pain after you’ve put the work in?
Nah, I actually like seeing people write about what we design. It’s healthy to have a debate whether a shoe sucks or not. Nobody should have people agree with them all the time. That’s the great thing about skateboarding, we’re all different and we love to talk trash. If there’s constructive criticism, then I’m game to hear anyone out. I knew this was going to be challenging since the FP is a departure from its predecessors and I knew there was going to be criticism.
There’s a spot of Huarache in there and plenty of Presto to the minimal look and minimum of pieces— was that an inspiration? It reminds us of the old Dunkesto model in some ways.
We used the Presto as a starting point. The Presto is great for its simplicity, a no-nonsense “less is more” approach. This thinking allows us to stay hyper focused on design intent, which is to strip away anything that’s unnecessary while keeping only what you need.

Gucci Mane Committed to Mental Hospital+Method Man's New Movie+Master P.'s Daughter Cymphonique Gets Own Sitcom

Gucci Mane has been committed to a mental facility.  Get the deets inside, plus news on Method Man's new comedy movie and Master P's daughter landing her own sitcom.

We told you earlier that the judge in Gucci Mane's case involving the raid on Waka Flocka Flame's home suggested he go back to jail after letting him go free with no charges last month. But now it gets a bit deeper.  Seems as though Gucci has been placed in a mental facility.

According to TMZ, yesterday Gucci Mane appeared in a Georgia courtroom where he filed papers saying he was not mentally competent to fight the prosecutors' efforts to revoke his probation.
A judge ordered Gucci into custody, where he was committed to a mental health treatment facility pending an evaluation of his mental condition.  Not icy.

Method Man fans will see him and all his fineness return to the big screen on July 15, 2011 in a new movie with comedian/actor Jonah Hill called The Sitter.
The movie is about a college dropout, played by Jonah, who has to take the three kids he’s babysitting across town with him while he’s buying drugs for his girlfriend. The movie also stars Sam Rockwell and comedian J.B. Smoove.  Any movie Jonah is in is hilarious.  And Meth is pretty damn good himself.  Should be a good one.

And coming to the small screen, Master P's daughter Cymphonique Miller has landed her own Nickelodeon sitcom called, "How to Rock Braces and Glasses."  Cymphonique will play Kacey, a girl who was popular until she has to get braces for her teeth and has to wear glasses.
Cymphonique follows in the footsteps of big brother Romeo who also had his own show on Nickelodeon.  Nick always needs more black stars for the kids to observe and enjoy.  Congrats.

Kanye West & Jay-Z Meet Up In Soho, May Drop "Watch The Throne" Collabo Album In A Week?

Fresh off their NYE weekend in Vegas, Jay-Z was spotted having a meeting with Kanye West yesterday and one can only imagine what great things they have in the works for their new album Watch The Throne.  See the candids of the two inside....
Kanye was sotted rocking a fur coat and Air Jordans while leaving the Mercer Hotel in NYC after a meeting with Jay-Z.  On NYE, Kanye got the crowd hyped when he announced that his collabo album with Jay-Z, Watch The Throne, was "coming in one week."  Not sure if he meant it hits the shelves or the Internet or if they'll just be finished with it (even though it was rumored to be done a while ago)...but we'll keep you posted.

Critics lash out at Kanye West over misogyny and "lynched" women in new "Monster" video.  Story.

Nicki Minaj Less-Than-Crazy At Miami Airport

Holidays are ov-ah.  Nicki Minaj was spotted jetting out of Miami International airport on New Year's Day after club hopping and doing her NYE hosting duties at Mansion the night before.

Pics of Ms. Minaj looking casual without the craziness when you read on...

Speaking of Nicki's Mansion NYE party, she reportedly did the countdown 6 minutes late because she was late to her own party.  Supposedly none of the party goers noticed.  And let's face it--when you're drinking as much as most of us do on NYE, you wouldn't either.

She went through security with her manager Scottie rocking her black wig, a tank, leathery jeans and cute boots.

Back to more partying and music making....

Chris Brown Gives Richmond, VA "Deuces"

Waka Flocka Turns Himself In, His Mama Deb Is In Denial

I swear Debra Antney is going for hood "my son can't do no wrong" mama of the year.    After Waka Flocka Flame's Atlanta home got raided last month while he wasn't there, and Gucci Mane got arrested, Waka's been everywhere but Atlanta since.

But yesterday he tuned himself in.  Still, Mama Deb says her baby (and client) is perfect and aint do a thing wrong.  The drama when you read on...
According to TMZ, Waka's mother and manager, Deb Antney, said the rapper turned himself in because "he wanted to do the right thing and didn't want to run." Riiiight.
Intereting that he's been doing shows, recording tracks and videos, doing interviews, all without stepping (a public) foot into Atlanta for several weeks.  Sounds like he was on the run to me.
Deb continues with an explanation of wat was in Waka's house:
"It had nothing to do with prostitution," Antney told MTV News. "The weapons they found were licensed weapons. There was under an ounce of marijuana, but it was nothing but a blunt. The other drugs were medication that was in Waka's room from when he got hurt," Antney said, referring to Waka Flocka Flame's shooting last year.
Sigh.  Really Deb?  Meanwhile, the judge in Gucci's case has now suggested he go back to jail after letting him go free with no charges last month.
Juaquin Malphurs (Waka's government name) is reportedly being held on $31,950 bond. A hearing is set for today.

Queen Latifah Gets FAB For PARADE + Christina Milian Gets HOT For LATINA

Queen Latifah is looking fab before her stint as People's Choice Awards host for the umpteenth year in a row.  She's rocking the pages of PARADE magazine.  Plus, Christina Milian lets it all hang out about her failed marriage to The Dream and how the cheating scandal and becoming a mom helped her.

A few quotables from her article:
Where Queen hopes to be in 10 years: “On cruise control, with a couple of kids under my belt,” Queen Latifah shared. “It’s in the Lord’s hands.”

On growing up in Jersey: “There’s something about growing up in New Jersey that prepares you for whatever you might encounter around the world. We’re not afraid to go places. I met Mike ‘The Situation’ [from Jersey Shore] because we were both on Jay Leno. He lives maybe 15 minutes from me. He was like, ‘If you ever get a flat tire, call me and I’ll hook you up.’ I love Jersey.”

On giving advice to future royal Kate Middleton:
“Make sure you have a sanctuary, because everybody in the world is going to be in your business. He happened to be born a prince; you happened to go to college and meet him. You’re two kids who fell in love. I just hope you have a happy life. And don’t take anything personally.

Lookin' good Queen.

And Christina Milian is looking pretty in pink on the cover of the new issue of LATINA magazine.
And some behind the scenes footage where she's joined by baby Violet.  Awwww.
Here's some quotes where Chris discusses getting cheated on, trying to change herself to make her marriage work, and what she's learned through all this drama:
On her failed marriage: “No matter what, you can’t change who you are. I know that now. I tried to be someone I wasn’t because I wanted my marriage to work. But ultimately, if it’s not working, it’s not working.”
On the cheating scandal: “I didn’t know anything. But looking back, my gut was telling me something was off. But I thought I could fix it.”
On lessons learned: “I learned a lot about myself this year. I learned what I can handle. I learned how much I can take. I learned who I am and what I will accept for myself and my daughter.”
On becoming a mom: “Being a new mother definitely makes me feel so much sexier than ever before. There’s a certain responsibility that I carry being a mom that makes me feel very confident and so blessed. Being a mom is the best thing that’s ever happened to me.”
On what’s next: “I feel brand new. I’ve been to hell and back, but I survived. I’m stronger for it and now I’m ready for the next phase of my life.”
Hot.
